What is the most popular flower holiday? Valentine’s Day is the most common answer. However it usually Mother’s Day that is busier in your average flower shop. While not everyone has a significant other everyone has a mother. Even those that no long keep in contact with their parent(s) for various reasons they still have them. This leads to another question: why are flowers a great gift for mom? How many times do you come to a present giving occasion and you just don’t know what to get your mom? You think to yourself “she has everything she wants, she doesn’t like dusting collectibles, if she wants it she buys it,” and the list goes on and on. Flowers are the perfect gift because face it most women LOVE flowers! Plus if you get them from a flower shop they will last up to two weeks depending on the type and if they are properly cared for. Then mom can just throw them out and not be left with nicnak to dust.
Here are a few tips you may want to keep in mind when you place your flower order for Mother’s Day:
1) Order them early so that you can have exactly what you want for your mom. Since it is such a busy day flower shops as well as their suppliers run out of certain products.
2) Keep in mind that the flowers are for your mom and not you. It is easy to be swept up by all of the pretty choices that before you know it you have your favorite flowers all picked out and didn’t think about your mom’s favorite flowers or colors.
3) Remember you are going to the professional and you should trust the professional to do their job. If you let them have some say in the flowers you will have an artistic touch added to your order. Plus if they feel that something may not look the best then they will not use it. 5) You can order loose cut flowers wrapped or you can order flowers in a container. Is your mom a person that would like to arrange her own flowers? Does she have a favorite vase to put flowers in? Is she too busy and does she not have time to arrange the flowers. Price is another factor to consider. If you decide to purchase wrapped flowers there will be more of them because money won’t be taken out for the container.
4) Think outside the box. There are different ways to spice up flower arrangements. You may want to order tropical flowers. These flowers could include protea, bird of paradise, or ginger just to name a few. Often times they are brighter and fun! Make sure to give some extra time if you want to try these out. Also keep in mind that they are usually more expensive per stem but they do usually have a greater longevity. You could also pick a different type of container to put the flowers into that your mom will love to have afterwards. I’m sure most of us have seen a teacup or a teapot arrangement but you don’t have to stop there. Maybe you saw a beautiful bowl and you know your mom would love it. Depending on the size and shape you may be able to have an arrangement made in it for her. I made an arrangement in a ceramic dog bowl for a friend and she loved it! It was for that friend that has everything including a few dogs so what a perfect gift! She now gives it back to me at Christmas every year so I can remake it for her each year. So go find something, bring it to your local shop and ask if it will work. It just may be your new Mother’s Day tradition!
Happy Mother's Day!!!
